Cynthia Mason at Springsteen tribute on 9/23
Well, I’ve been asked by WXPN to come out of retirement : ) for a Bruce Springsteen 60th birthday tribute celebration downstairs at the World Cafe Live. Local musicians will be covering the album Born to Run in its entirety, and I will playing my version of “Meeting Across the River.” I’m putting the details I have so far below in this e-mail in case any of you want to come and rock out with me on a Wednesday night. This is pretty rare for me, and I’m hoping that I will be able to stay up late enough to make it through my tune. But, hey, if The Boss can still rock it at 60, I have no excuse, right? Hope to see some of you there!
Cynthia

Public Record’s second release, Echolocation, finds the band in full-on collaboration mode as they join forces with 11 bands/artists of differing musical backgrounds to remix and rethink five songs from the band’s 2008 self-titled debut album from High Two. Echolocation boasts an original mixture of artists that should surprise those listeners expecting a typical brand of remix album. Individuals like Guy Picciotto (Fugazi, Rites Of Spring), Alasdair MacLean (The Clientele), Mac McCaughan (Superchunk, Portastatic), and Quentin Stoltzfus (Mazarin) are here remixing for the first time alongside famed indie rock producer/remixer Mark Robinson (Unrest, Air Miami). Also featured are remixes by some promising new and underground acts like A Sunny Day In Glasgow, Collette Columbirch, and Arc In Round. The inclusion of Malcolm Ross (Josef K, Orange Juice) should also excite – especially, for those fans of Scottish Postcard pop & ’80s post-punk.
Echolocation is an energizing blend of the experimental and presents a surprisingly cohesive collection of separate pieces and ideas. Where most remix albums are acknowledged for few highlights and much disjointedness, Public Record and friends have given us a complete album.
Features the first remixes ever by Guy Picciotto (Fugazi, Rites Of Spring), Alasdair MacLean (The Clientele), Mac McCaughan (Superchunk, Portastatic) & Quentin Stoltzfus (Mazarin).

Like a rejection of destruction; like an answer to anxiety; like a reversal of death – I Am Become Joy is a prescient cut across the grain of this new depression. Adam Arcuragi’s new 11-song album confirms his importance as one of the most gifted songwriters today. In some ways harkening back to the origins of recorded American folk music and in other ways continuing lineage of American independent rock, Arcuragi has positioned himself as a unique and visionary voice.
On his second full-length album, Arcuragi expands on the dark, sparse style of his preceding 2006 self-titled album and 2008 EP, Soldiers for Feet. Backed with layers of backing vocals and a rotating cast of instrumentation, I Am Become Joy shows the full width of Arcuragi’s brilliant songwriting style. Layered with harmony vocals and embellished with pedal steel, dulcimer, accordion, trumpet, and even a singing saw, each song has a unique arrangement to compliment Arcuragi on vocals and guitar.
I Am Become Joy features guest appearances by Dawn Landes and members of like-minded artists B.C. Camplight, These United States, Fan of Friends, and The War on Drugs.
